Laird is a Toronto based sculptor that works in both a commercial and artistic context. A love of toys and fascination with play drives his passion for sculpture. His work focuses on creating interactive objects that through their function, design and subject, force the participant to question expected conventions. His graduating thesis at OCAD was a series of action figures that accurately depicted the image of regular people. By placing normal people in a context that is usually reserved for those with celebrity status it makes the viewer question how and why we value those in the public eye.
When not hunched over his desk sculpting Laird can be witnessed buying comic books, playing video games, eating candy and fighting off adulthood.
