The inspiration for the fortune plate comes from the traditional foturne cookie that encloses a message when opened. The idea of the fortune cookie has evolved over the years and these beautiful plates depict the knowledge that has been passed down by different cultures. This product brings a humorous narrative and a new approach in modifying the fortune cookie yet once again. Historically, the fortune cookie derived from the Mongols during the time that they ruled China. At that time, the fortune cookie that we have come to know today simply began as a mooncake that contained a message inside.
In the 1800’s, the Japanese modified the version of the mooncake and created a cookie that contained a fortune rather than a message. Today, the fortune cookie is used in many Chinese restaurants as a commodity. Traditionally, a fortune cookie is served after a meal. The fortune plate follows this same tradition since the message is only revealed once the food on the plate has been eaten. This product is sold in a set of 4 and each plate has its own unique quote displayed in a different area of the plate.
